As sugarcane aphids make their way further into Kansas, you may be out scouting your fields more often. Sandra Wick, K-State Extension Crop Production Agent, came to visit one of our growers' fields. Turns out, they aren't sugarcane aphids! This Milo field was full of Corn leaf aphids and Greenbug aphids. It is NOT warranted to spray these aphids as you would kill the beneficial insects.

Pictured above is a ladybug larvae (bigger black and orange bug) and several Greenbug aphids, Corn leaf aphids and shells from the aphids.

These aphids tend to congregate in the whorl of the plant and on the underside of the leaves.
